And just like that we are in the middle of November with just over 5 weeks till Christmas - yikes! It’s crazy how time has flown by this year, although at the same time, when I think back to April when I raced IRONMAN Texas (my first pro series race), it also feels like a lifetime ago.
As I have mentioned previously, I still have two races to go as part of this pro series, and we are now in full prep for those.
The change to half distance training has been so refreshing. Since Nice, I have completed 5 “proper” training weeks, the total volume of those weeks being 20hours, 22hours, 25 hours, 24hours and this week will be around 26. If you were following some of my newsletters from earlier in the year when I was training for the full distance, you will know that this is a bit of a drop in volume comparatively, now that we are looking to include higher intensities and targeting 70.3s. Unsurprisingly, despite the drop in volume I have still felt the fatigue some days; likely a result of introducing higher intensities plus this year just being a long one and the end of season nearing.
One big positive as of late is that after managing hamstring tendinopathy since the beginning of the year, it is now feeling pretty close to 100% again and I am able to handle running faster paces without any concerns. I have worked hard at managing and trying to solve my hamstring this year and it’s nice to finally be out the other side of it and running faster without any worries. Good timing with 70.3s coming up!
Outside of training-related things, we have started long-awaited renovations in our house which is exciting. We are currently living in the bottom half of our house only which is small and cosy but is perfectly fine for the two of us for a while. We feel lucky we can still live here and renovate rather than have to find somewhere else to live for the meantime. See a pic below for the current state of our upstairs!
If you made it this far, thanks for reading :) next time I check in here I’ll be either on my way to, or in Busselton. One last decent training week to go!
Till then..
